I've been taking AA for 4 weeks and found out last Friday that I've been doing it wrong. I was taking one tab (70mg) on Saturday mornings 30 mins before breakfast and any other drugs. I was told to stay upright for 2 hours afterwards, to avoid acid reflux. However, after 30 mins had elapsed I had breakfast and then took all my other drugs, including Omeprazole and Calcichew. My GP has since told me I shouldn't take Calcichew at all the day I take Alendronic Acid and I should wait 2 hours before I take Omeprazole. Therefore I now have to wait 2 hours before I can take steroids, Indometacin & Hydroxy on a Saturday. I queried whether it was ok to take Alendronic Acid Sat. am. and MTX Sat. pm. and he said that was ok. Anyone been told anything different? Carol

I've been told not to sit in the bath too long in case it shrinks! A friend is someone who knows all about you but loves you anyway!

Thanks Amanda. I take it for bone protection ........ years of RA destruction, steroids and early menopause, so lots of you won't need it ...... yet! Carol

Hi Carol,
I used to take AA but moved over to Risedronate (and have recently arbitrarily stopped that). I have never been told to take other drugs at different times other than 30 mins after the AA/Risedronate. I was told not to take Calceos on the morning I took the AA/Risedronate. I can't see any reason on the Risedronate info sheet advising any changes to taking my Lanzoprazole 30 mins after AA!Bob

Thanks Bob & Benmaise. Its amazing how much drug advice varies from Dr. to Dr. I'll ask for a second opinion when I see my Rheumy. Carol

Morning -
I was recently told NOT to take the Calichew (calcium) at the same time as the hydroxychlorine as it soaks the second drug up too quickly and therefore it is not efficient. I guess that would apply to the Alendronic Acid - I now take the Calichew midday well away from the other drugs.
Happy Christmas Hugs from Sue

Thanks Blue Star. I too was told to swallow AA with a whole glass of water. Lanzoprazole? Is that another stomach protector similar to Omeprazole? Carol

Yes Stewart, I knew Omeprazole was a PPI, but don't forget some people on the forum haven't had RA as long as you and I and may not be familiar with the terminology. Carol

I have been taking AA for a few years and always eat 30 mins later. I have been taking Calcichew and other drugs including Hdroxy with my breakfast. I am annoyed the doctors have never told me not to stop Calcichew on the same day. I will ask. Thank goodness for this forum i,ve got to know quite a lot from here ! Kathleen Mc.

Hi Tabbycat, I have taken Alendronic acid for years, I take mine Saturday morning, I do not lie down for at least half an hour, I then take my lansaprozole, half an hour later, breakfast (at last) I take 2 Adcal every day but I leave at least 4 fours between the drugs. Nobody has told me not to take Adcal on the same day as my Alendronic.

It was my GP who told me NOT to take Calcichew on the same day as I take Alendronic Acid. My Rheumy never told me, yet he prescribed all my drugs! I will ask him on 18th January. I was told to keep upright for TWO hours after taking AA; but I could eat 30 mins afterwards. My GP also said to wait TWO hours before I take Omeprazole, which I take before Indometacin (NSAID). I don't plan going out early on Saturday mornings nowadays because of my drug regime. Carol
